Observatory Title

Doug's Observatory

My Observatory is a 8' square building with a Home-Dome on top. The telescope is a LX-200 Meade 10" F 6.3 The camera is a ST-6 guided by a ST-4. Everything including the shutter and dome RA are electrically controlled from the warm-up trailer (in the picture to the left) 130' away.

Walter standing in front of Doug's Observstory

Walter MacDonald in front of my observatory, just after the conversion from a roll-off roof to a Dome. Notice the Solar Panel mounted on the wall of the observatory... This keeps a standby car battery up to power.

Walter's Observatory

Walter MacDonald's Observatory 10x10' housing a Celestron 8" Schmidt Cassegrain Telescope. The shed next door houses a 17" Dobsonian. Walter has logged over 800 NGC Deep Sky objects.

Otmar's Observatory

Otmar Eigler's Observatory, famous for it's continuous polar alignment. Most of Otmar's equipment is home made, with the exception of a Losmandy mount and Meade 2080 8" scope.

Roll off roof Observatory

Roll Off Roof Observatory, (Before purchase of Home Dome) ...and the 'Astro-Zit'

The Infamous 'ClappTrapp'

Effectionately know as the 'ClappTrapp' My first observatory was portable and would fit into the trunk of the car. It serves me well, eliminating dew and wind problems, when I use an 8" scope 'on-the-go'....

Exploding Clapp Trapp

As Snug as a bug in a rug! ...No wind, No dew, and about 10 degrees warmer than outside. Just about as good as it gets, when portable.

A field full of Clapp-Trapps. (Before permanent Observatories built)

Clapp-Trapps and their storage sheds. Porcupines love plywood! Platforms for permanent observatories under construction.
