I imaged from the backyard in Oshawa tonight. Temperature range was from +9C to +6C (session from 22:30 to 02:30). I imaged NGC 40, after overcoming some pointing and focus problems. The best focus I could get tonight was 2.8x2.4 pixels.
There was auroral activity tonight. It got quite bright around 00:30 and by 01:15 was up to the zenith. Colour was mostly green with a few hints of red. It was a very dynamic aurora, rapidly changing and shimmering.
With cirrus threatening from the west and south and aurora from the north, I stopped imaging and put down a ground sheet and blanket and watched the aurora lying down. The aurora faded considerably, then I fell asleep and woke up at 02:30. The aurora was up to the zenith again, and it was obscured here and there all over the sky by streaks of cirrus cloud, so I packed up the scope and went to bed. (I was hoping to image the Eskimo and Hubble nebulae starting at 04:30.)
