I imaged from Oshawa tonight in the wee hours. This time I set up the scope just outside one of the windows and ran the camera cables into the house to the laptop just inside the window. Using
this arrangement, I could reach through the window to operate the computer during focusing. Once focused, I passed the LX200 keypad through the window using the 25' phone handset cord I bought at
Radio Shack. Then I spent the next two hours inside the house where it was nice and warm and took the pictures from inside!!!
I imaged NGC 2261 (a satellite or airplane went through one of the frames!), NGC 2419, then did test shots of DO Draconis (shown below), and NGC 2403.
The temperature range on this session was +1C to -1C -- our first night of subzero weather this fall.
| NGC 2261 |
35½ minutes (71 x 30s) |
 |
| Hubble's Variable Nebula -- NGC 2261 (10" f/6.3 LX200) |
| NGC 2419 |
28½ minutes (57 x 30s) |
 |
| The Intergalactic Tramp -- NGC 2419 (10" f/6.3 LX200). |
| DO Draconis |
2 minutes (4 x 30s) |
 |
| DO Draconis -- my first CCD image of a variable star (10" f/6.3 LX200). (Well OK, my first not including the one in Hubble's Variable Nebula!) A star chart is available
for this field from the AAVSO. |
