After being defeated by clouds last night, the cirrus covering most of the sky around the time of sunset tonight cleared off by midnight. I went out and after a botched attempt to get some more images on the Bubble Nebula, took some test shots and then imaged IC 289 until dawn. The low temperature tonight was +8C and I could see my breath in the cold night air! Just as with last night there was no sign of the infamous southern searchlight. Dew was moderate and there was no wind (session from 01:00 to 05:30 EDT).

Adding further decoration to the sky, Saturn continues to make a nice pair with Aldebaran in Taurus and Jupiter is in the midst of Gemini. Meanwhile Sirius is up, the sickle of Leo makes an appearance low in the east (with Venus), and Orion is almost transiting right at dawn. Summer is definitely over.
