MODIFICATION #3: BEARINGS

The standard Coulter rocker box is rather stiff in azimuth, to say the least. At lower pointing elevations this is not a problem, since the optical tube provides plenty of leverage. Close to the zenith however, the leverage disappears, and the 'scope is almost impossible to turn.

A friend of mine, Steve Chomniak, came to the rescue and installed a set of roller bearings. These allow me to turn the 'scope in azimuth very easily — even when it's pointing near the zenith. This modification is an essential one.
