The SubFloor

The 2x4 framing for the sub-floor.

Since MGRO rotates on four 6" wheels, a flat surface is needed for the wheels to turn on. This could take the form of a circular track; I decided to build a square sub-floor using frame construction.

The subfloor is a 2x4 frame 6'4" square. The frame is now levelled and supported by resting it on clay bricks salvaged from a dump. This greatly reduces the possibility of rot, since the frame is not in contact with the ground.

Subfloor frame, covered with plywood.

I covered the framing with ¾" plywood (good 1 side). To save money, I pieced 1/3 of the floor with scrap plywood, so I only needed to buy 1 sheet.
