Neptune

On February 11, after 7308 days, Pluto once again became the most distant planet from the sun. (Neptune had been more distant since February 8, 1979. Click here for more info.) Neptune will again be the most distant planet from 2231 April 5 until 2245 October 31.

I joined the Search for ExtraTerrestrial Intelligence through the incredibly cool SETI@home project. This project utilizes the Internet to distribute software and data, and the idle processor time (many millenia worth so far!) in computers around the world to do SETI!

The Ring Nebula

CCD imaging became yet another serious astronomical endeavour for me. It's a lot easier than film-based astrophotography!

Transit of Mercury

On our way back from Florida (and without a telescope), we missed the transit of Mercury.

The much awaited 1999 Leonid meteor storm proved to be a real bust for North American observers.

The Florida Imaging Center

Tempting fate, Doug Clapp & I spent 10 more nights at Jack Newton's Florida Imaging Center. This time however only 2 nights were completely clear, with 4 partly clear, and 4 cloudy nights. Nevertheless we still got some good images!
